Ocean, you’ve really worked hard to get to where you are today. What guidelines do you have for achieving success?
I love to find new sounds and try to play the best sets and music for my friends and audience. I think the most important thing is that I really love what I am doing and I spend a lot of time on this.
Is there anything holding you back?
The Crowd in Hong Kong is still small, but it’s growing. Hopefully we can have more local people get into the electronic music scene and support the industry, so that we can bring in more good artists. Other than that, I am not a full time DJ, so my other daytime job sometimes limits me when looking for more gigs in other continents like Europe. Usually, I travel to Europe once a year for some new inspiration and see & play with some friends out there. I really hope I can start visiting more often.
Now that you are deep into your career, what genres are you experimenting with? What types of sounds are you exploring?
Techno, Minimal, House & Acid are always the genres i’m into. Recently I am leaning more towards mixing Detroit Techno, Chicago House, Minimal House and Dub Techno - trying to mix all these sounds at peak set times, as usually people here in Hong Kong are more into banging Techno during peak hours - so, i’m testing all this out.
"...the most important thing is that I really love what I am doing..."

Music production. Hardware vs Software. Thoughts?
Both have been good to me!
What was the defining moment that made you realize that you had practiced and produced enough music, to be confident in what you want to achieve?
I think it was few years ago at my first gig in Berlin, where I got some very nice feedback. That really give me some confidence in regards to my DJ career. Another memory, was at the Clockenflap festival in Hong Kong last year, which was the biggest booking I have had so far. Since then i’ve gotten the chance to play in Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, and each time there were some people who came up to me and said they were at Clockenflap and had caught my set, loved it and came out on this day to hear me play again. That really warmed my heart. It made me want to keep playing and producing, to play more and get better in all aspects of music, mixing and production
"It made me want to keep playing and producing, to play more and get better in all aspects of music, mixing and production."

If you were a piece of furniture, what would you be?
Custom DJ booth haha.
Ocean, in a few sentences. Tell us about this mix you made for us. Where did you get your inspiration. Is there anything special you want the audience to know?
As usual I love to put deep, groovy tunes in a podcast that is more suitable for people to listen to at home or during work, to relax and take a nice one hour journey. Some tracks are from DJ’s I have played with before, some are from labels run by my friends and family from around the world. It makes me happy to present these great productions to audiences everywhere. This is a mix based on friendship, love and telling a story through music.
