Introduce yourself to our audience. Who is Cashu?

I'm a DJ and a party producer in São Paulo’s underground scene. I started in this area working with the Voodoohop and Capslock collectives, doing street and warehouse parties in 2013. This scene I created with Laura Diaz and the Mamba Negra party. I started to play in the parties 3 years ago.

Can you give us insight into a few of the groups you are involved in, musically and politically. Do you feel that the essence of ‘sending a message’ has become harder or easier in today’s society?

Currently at "Mamba Negra", the partner party of "Carlos Capslock", both talk about political subjects, but we don't consider ourselves a direct political militancy. We send that message in other ways, like art and small actions inside of the party. We like going to places with the occupation of a DJ and help the scene with the event production.

" I believe the change of mind is a seed we plant; questioning patterns of behavior..."

Do you ever combine these two subjects together, music and politics. Why or why not?

Living in São Paulo (and in Brazil), a place with a huge social inequality and a lot of social problems, we are always facing political problems. For us, that connection between art and politics is flowing very naturally because there is no way out to face reality. A simple party on streets is a way to do politics. However, I try to practice that inside of the universe i'm in. I see my profile of militancy through that kind of action, integrating different minorities like women, black people and the GLBT community

What is your ultimate objective in creating awareness within the community you have created?

I believe the change of mind is a seed we plant; questioning patterns of behavior in the parties. We try to send these messages in a taxing way, making the people receive the message through the mood of the party. Sometimes, we have to publish information questioning some kinds of behavior we don't approve.

If you could organize an event in one of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World, which one would it be?

I prefer the seven wonders of the apocalypse. Maybe some places reflecting the human failure.

Cashu, in a few sentences. Tell us about this mix you made for us. Where did you get your inspiration. Is there anything special you want the audience to know?

I usually have some difficulty playing alone in my room, but this time I was in a mood to to test new things. I used some new stuff that I found recently. Almost all the tracks, I haven't yet played on the dancefloor. Six of them are from Brazilian producers, like Guilherrrrmo, Bad Mix, L_cio ft. Massumi, Manu Villas, Manara and Caio Haar. The others, are from women producers that I admire, like Aurora Halal, Serena Butler and Marla Singer. Hope you like it.
